Stage One: Planning

Location: Dining Room Table
Listening to: The hoover. With Russell Howard in the background.
Smelling: A christmas tree, candles and poppadums.

We have already done some basic research. We know all about visas and taxfile numbers and we have a rich uncle in Melbourne who we are hoping to leech off for a week or two when we first arrive.

But we want some ideas from you: the public, and any australia going peoples.

Where should we go? What should we do? Which places have to be visited? What are the easiest/best jobs for people with not much experience in anything? Has anyone done the thing where you go from farm to farm picking fruit (can't for the life of me remember what the scheme is called)?

Other than our first week or two exploring Melbourne and setting things up, we have no idea where we are going to do or what we're going to do when we get there. So some ideas would be nice. Also, are there any slang words which are essential to know? For example, had we not listened to Adam Hills we would be extremely confused if someone said budgie smugglers to us (although I'm sure people don't say it all the time).

Anyway, that will do for a first post as we have people coming round for dinner (not for another two hours but the parents go mental and think the house has to be spotless hours before they come). It's family friends, not the bloody Queen. So. Thanks for any help in advance.

Jenny and Laura
